Performing with Triumph’s superstar Rik Emmett, winning First Place in the Supernova Battle of the Bands contest against 11 other bands, and securing a Carparelli Guitar Co. guitar endorsement has supercharged 15-year-old Kristen T. Clark to push forward with her music career.
In 2010 Clark’s excitement escalated ten-fold when she won an International contest for a week-long Scholarship to Toronto’s SongStudio 2010 Songwriting Workshop. It’s hosted yearly by rock Superstar Rik Emmett (Triumph) and highly respected producer, engineer and broadcaster Blair Packham (The Jitters). Additional Faculty were Greig Nori (MuchMusic, DisBand), Jim Vallance (Hedley, Bryan Adams), Terry Brown (Rush), Allister Bradley, Bill McKetrick, Dan Hill and Suzie Vinnick.
With world-renowned Faculty as her mentors, Clark spent the entire week at Ryerson University honing her songwriting skills, co-writing and jamming with other musicians and performing at several of Toronto’s most prestigious venues such as C’est What, the Gladstone Hotel and Hugh’s Room. The week concluded with a songwriter’s showcase at Hugh’s Room in which Clark performed one of her own original songs ‘Not My Type’ WITH Rik Emmett!
Clark expresses that that week ‘changed her life’ and now writes with a new attitude and sound. She’s using her own life experiences spilling her own emotions and mental images into her stories. Being a lead guitar player also allows her to write titillating guitar solos that are riveting but more importantly, memorable. The latter part of 2010 saw Clark become the First Place Winner of Supernova’s Battle of the Bands contest against 11 other bands awarding her 12 hours of studio recording time. She is currently writing all new original material for a full length CD in the future.
2010 has truly blessed Clark with a host of good fortune, but December 12th was truly a dream come true for her. Clark received a guitar endorsement from world-renowned Carparelli Guitar Co. Located in Canada they are known world wide for their progressive thinking, unique approach to business and instruments like no other. They manufacture some of the finest guitars on the planet. Kristen was inducted into their family and presented with a Carparelli S4 electric guitar, which is a much welcome testament to her guitar playing abilities. “I chose Carparelli Guitars because they have superior sound, feel and workmanship. They are a company that really cares. Being a Carparelli endorsee really is like having another family,” Clark says. You can visit them at http://www.carparelliguitars.com and read the press release here: http://prlog.org/11150842.
Clark’s history has seen her perform in hundreds of shows and benefits in the past 9 years with headliners such as Tom Wilson, George Fox, Jamie Warren and Carroll Baker. She has also made numerous TV and radio appearances and has been the recipient of a Best Young Songwriter’s Award Nomination at the Barrie New Music Fest. Using her music as a tool, Clark has assisted in fundraising efforts for Cystic Fibrosis, Terry Fox Cancer Research, Kids Help Phone, the Smitty’s Christmas Wish Foundation, the US Humane Society, Calling Cards for the Troops and the woundedwarriors.ca organizations.
Clark has taken vocal lessons since the age of seven and continues to hone her guitar skills with a private lead guitar instructor. She is constantly working on tweaking her live shows and fans will be shocked by the obvious turn towards rock with a healthy splash of teenaged attitude thrown in, so stay tuned!
